Rocky Mountain’s Instinct 970 is the answer for those who want a lightweight, longer travel 29er. The perfect partner for all-day epic rides, with 130mm of SmoothLink Suspension, relaxed angles, and the innovative Ride-9 system, the Instinct is an incredible climber and confident descender… perfect for VT riding.

Why it’s cool: Rocky Mountain specs their bikes the way we would build a custom bike, they choose great parts from companies like Fox, Race Face and DT Swiss. Then they choose relatively short stems and wide handle bars which help to keep the riders center of gravity behind the front hub and include a Rock Shox Reverb dropper post, a key to confident downhill performance. They hand build the wheel sets on their bikes and, most important of all, they start off with a geometry that just flat-out works for the trails around here. The gloss black on matte black graphics also help.

Who it’s for: The Instinct 970 is a great choice for a rider looking for a super-efficient pedaling 29er with a modern trail-bike’s geometry. This bike is nimble on our tight New England terrain. The handlebar mounted controls for the rear shock and the dropper post let you hammer away without needing to dismount or fumble for controls during your ride.  If you are looking for a dance partner for epic rides, a 29er that behaves like a trail bike and that loves to hammer tight east coast singletrack, this bike could be for you.
